Young Police Officers’ Seminar (YPOS)

Every year, the International Police Association organises the Young Police Officers’ Seminar (YPOS) – an international professional development programme designed specifically for serving police officers with up to 10 years of active service.

Purpose & Objectives

Provide young officers with access to world-class presentations from leading law enforcement experts and academics.
Offer opportunities to exchange experiences, learn from peers, and build international friendships.
Strengthen participants’ global understanding of policing and the IPA’s mission.
Encourage professional growth, networking, and long-term engagement with IPA.

Who Can Attend

Active police officers with a maximum of 10 years of service.
Typically aged 35 or under.
Each IPA Section is encouraged to send one participant, with options for reserves if spaces allow.

Event Format

Annual international seminar hosted by a different IPA section each year.
Past locations include:
- 2024 – Vienna (Austria)
- 2022 – Sri Lanka
- 2019 – Stirling (United Kingdom)
- 2017 – Green Bay, Wisconsin (USA)
- 2015 – Warsaw (Poland)
- 2013 – Australia
Each YPOS has a topical theme relevant to newer officers (e.g., counter-terrorism, human trafficking, communication skills).
The programme combines:
- Professional seminars & workshops
- Cultural and social activities
- Physical or sporting elements
- Opportunities for practical learning and peer exchange

Financial Support

A subsidy is provided from the international budget to participating sections.

Sections may also seek sponsorship or participant contributions to support costs.
The aim is to keep participation affordable for all members.

YPOS is more than a seminar — it’s a global platform to develop future leaders in policing, foster international understanding, and build lifelong friendships.

Upcoming Event: Young Police Officers’ Seminar (YPOS) 2026

The next Young Police Officers’ Seminar (YPOS) will take place 2–9 August 2026 in Selm, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

YPOS 2026 will bring together young police officers from across the world for an intensive programme focused on digitalisation and modern technologies in police operational training, combining professional development with international exchange and networking.
