Writing the Future: IPA Arts & Culture Project Launches Literary Initiative

The IPA Arts and Culture Project is expanding its creative horizons with a new and exciting focus: writing—a timeless form of cultural expression and communication. Recognising the power of words to connect, inspire, and educate, the project has launched a series of initiatives that place storytelling and literature at the heart of international police friendship.

At the forefront of this movement is the release of a remarkable new book that serves as both a creative journey and a cultural mission.

Rules of the 1st IPA Literary Contest 2026

  1. Objective

This contest seeks to promote literary creation and highlight the human dimension of IPA members. It aims to reward works that, based on professional practice, emphasize the ethical values, commitment, and emotional weight inherent in pursuing one’s vocation or career.

  1. Participants

All IPA members, from any section, may participate with original and unpublished works written in English that have not been awarded prizes in other contests.

  1. Categories and Formats

Two participation formats are established:

  • Format 1: Short Story
  • Format 2: Poetry
  1. Theme

The theme of the works is open. However, the jury will favorably consider those pieces that:

  • Address a professional environment or theme.
  • Highlight the values ​​inherent to the profession (ethics, effort, camaraderie, excellence).
  • Reflect the emotional weight and human impact that work represents in people’s lives.
  1. Format and Length

Option 1: Short Stories

  • Length: Maximum of 10 pages.
  • Format: A4 size, standard margins (2.5 cm), 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font.
  • Line spacing: 1.5 lines.

Option 2: Poetry

  • Length: Free (both in number of lines and number of poems, as long as they are submitted under the same title).
  • Format: Free structure, 12-point font.
  1. Submission of Works

Works should be sent by email to artsandcultureprojectteam@gmail.com using a pseudonym to guarantee anonymity:

  1. File A (The Work): A PDF with the title of the work, the pseudonym, and the content. The file name will be: WORK_Title_Pseudonym.pdf.
  2. File B (The Enclosed Envelope): A PDF with the author’s name, ID number, address, contact phone number, and a brief biography. The file name will be: ENTRY_Title_Pseudonym.pdf.
  3. Deadlines
  • Call for entries opens: March 1, 2026.
  • Submission deadline: July 1, 2026.
  • Jury decision: August 1, 2026.
  1. Prizes

One prize will be awarded for each category consisting of a commemorative gift, a diploma, and two printed copies of the compilation book.

(All selected works will be compiled into a book, of which two hard copies will be given to the author(s). These copies should be given to the delegate of their national section during the world congress so that they can be distributed to the author(s) afterward.)

  1. Jury

The jury will be composed of literary professionals affiliated with IPA. Their decision will be final.

 

A World of Police Friendship

This beautifully written and illustrated travel book takes readers on a thrilling adventure around the world. It highlights not only the diverse cultures and landscapes visited but also:

  • The essential role of police in society
  • The value of international police friendship, as promoted by the IPA
  • Ongoing IPA projects that foster peace, collaboration, and education
  • Educational messages to prevent misconduct, including:
    • Environmental protection
    • Road safety
    • Avoiding online scams and cybercrimes
    • Combating substance abuse (tobacco, alcohol, drugs)

The book is further brought to life by the author’s own paintings, offering a visually engaging experience that reflects the spirit of global unity and cultural exchange.

Funded by the IPA and sponsored by SELAN, the book will be officially presented at the 68th IPA World Congress in Kraków, Poland.

What’s Next: Writing for All

This publication marks only the beginning of an evolving literary journey within the Arts and Culture Project. In the coming years, the initiative will expand to include:

  • Short Story Competitions
  • Poetry Competitions

IPA members from around the world will be invited to participate—offering them the opportunity to share their stories, explore meaningful topics, and potentially see their work published in future IPA literary collections.

This initiative opens the door for all IPA members with a passion for writing to actively engage with the Arts and Culture Project, contributing their voices to a growing body of international police literature.
